Fort Myers car crash- 3/7/10 : Firefighters from the South Trail Fire District in Fort Myers and Lee County EMS were dispatched at approximately 12:30 hours to the intersection of Metro Parkway & Idlewild Street for a car crash. Upon arrival, South Trail Rescue 61 reported they had a two vehicle crash with two victims pinned in a Toyota Prius which had been hit by a Chevrolet pickup. Engine 61 arrived and units began extrication of the two victims while Lee County EMS treated the patients. One patient in the Prius received serious injuries and was deemed a trauma alert and transported to Lee Memorial Trauma Center.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 3/4/10 : LAFD Stations 103, 104, Lee County EMS Medic 25 and Battalion 100, Chief Christensen were dispatched at approximately 1315 hours to 2431 Lantana Ave South for a traffic crash. Upon arrival, Engine 103 found a 2 year old child that had been run over in the driveway by the rear wheel of a minivan. The child had a serious head injury and was trauma alerted. MEDSTAR was requested but was unavailable, so Lee Control requested Aeromed from Hendry County. The landing zone was established at Leonard Blvd South @ Leda Ave South in an open field. LCEMS Medic 25 treated & transported the child from the scene to the l/z where Aeromed arrived minutes later. The child was flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center.

Lehigh Acres, FL motorcycle vs car- 2/27/10 : LAFD Station 101& 102 "C" shift companies were dispatched just after 0130 hours on 2/27/10 to Joel Boulevard @ East 4th Street for a vehicle crash. Upon arrival of Engine 101, Lieutenant Pitter notified Lee Control that he had a motorcycle versus car head-on with one fatality and two patients for transport and that both vehicles were fully involved in fire. Battalion 100, acting Chief Paquin, arrived on scene moments later and requested MEDSTAR for one trauma alert. Lee Control notified the Battalion that MEDSTAR was unavailable and they would request Aeromed from Hendry County. The l/z was initially established just west of the scene on Joel Blvd, however the Aeromed pilot felt uncomfortable with that site and requested a different one be established. Truck 102 relocated to the church at Bell Blvd.& Joel Blvd. in an open field where Aeromed landed and loaded the trauma alert for transport to Lee Memorial Trauma Center. The driver of the car which was struck was also transported by LAFD Rescue 103 to a local hospital. Joel Blvd remained closed for several hours while the Florida Highway Patrol investigated.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 2/24/10 : LAFD Engine 101 was on a medical at a residence on Joel Blvd at approximately 1900 hours, when this head-on crash occurred 2 houses away in front of 611 Joel. Rescue 103 which was en route to the medical call, came upon the wreck and immediately requested a second rescue due to multiple victims.

Lehigh Acres, FL rollover crash- 1/18/10 : LAFD "C" shift firefighter/paramedics were dispatched at 1842 hours on 1/18/10 to Lee Boulevard & Homestead Road for a possible rollover. Upon arrival Engine 102 and Rescue 103 reported they had a car on it's roof in a ditch with one victim trapped. Battalion 100, Chief Christensen arrived on scene and requested an additional Engine & Rescue for assistance with extrication and transport of possibly 2 additional patients, who later refused transport. The female driver was extricated and transported by Rescue 103 to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Lehigh Acres, FL atv crash- 12/20/09 : LAFD Engine & Rescue 102 and LCEMS Medic 23 "A" shift & battalion 100, Chief Dillalo, were dispatched to Bay Roc Circle at 1635 hours for a reported atv crash. Upon arrival, Battalion 100 stated he had 2 stable patients of a head-on crash and that MEDSTAR, which had been put on standby, could be stood down. A civilian's pickup truck was utilized in removing the injured victims from the crash site to the awaiting Rescues.

Upon arrival, Engine 101 acting Lieutenant Brady notified Lee Control they had a male down in the road. Paramedics assessed the patient and he was treated for non life threatening injuries and transported to Lee Memorial Hospital aboard LAFD Rescue 101.

Lehigh Acres, FL atv crash- 12/13/09 : LAFD Engine 102 & Rescue 101 "C" shift responded to 1503 Sheldon Ave at 1652 hours for a reported atv crash. Upon arrival, Rescue 101 found a teenage female unconscious and breathing and called a trauma alert, followed by a request for MEDSTAR to fly. Engine 102 arrived 2 minutes later and assisted in treating the patient and loading her into Rescue 101 for transport to the landing zone, which was adjacent to Station 101. MEDSTAR 2 arrived at the l.z and after a quick assessment by the air medics, loaded the patient into the chopper and transported to Lee Memorial Trauma Center.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 12/10/09 : LAFD Engine & Rescue 101 and Battalion 100 responded to a 2 car crash at the intersection of Sentinella Blvd & McArthur Blvd at 1553 hours. Upon arrival Engine 101 Lieutenant Pitter advised he had 2 vehicles involved with one on it's side. Paramedics from Rescue 101 checked the two drivers who both denied any injuries. The Jeep involved in the crash was carrying US Mail, so some folks in the neighborhood may have had some late Christmas cards.

Lehigh Acres, FL motorcycle crash- 12/9/09 : LAFD Engine 102 & Rescue 101 "B" shift and Battalion 100, acting Chief Collins, were dispatched at 1008 hours to the area of Homestead Road & Adams Avenue for a motorcycle wreck. Upon arrival, Engine 102 Lt. Ronco advised Lee Control they had a motorcycle versus pickup with one victim ejected from the bike. LAFD paramedics deemed the patient met trauma alert criteria and he was taken to Lee Memorial Trauma Center aboard Rescue 101. The operator of the trike type motorcycle stated he started the engine in his front yard and the throttle jammed full open, launching him onto Homestead Road and into the side of a Chevrolet pickup. The operator was ejected and the trike did a 180 degree turn back towards his house, finally wedging itself in a tree.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 12/8/09 : LAFD firefighter/paramedics from station 101 "A" shift & Battalion 100, Chief Dillalo, were dispatched to 515 Joel Boulevard at approximately 1445 hours on 12/8/09 for a vehicle crash with possible entrapment. Upon arrival, Engine 101 Lieutenant Dettmar notified Lee Control he had a two car mvc with an unconscious female trapped. LAFD Paramedic McDowell immediately called a trauma alert and MEDSTAR was requested by Lieutenant Dettmar. Firefighter Vargo had the Hurst tool and quickly popped the door. The patient was rapidly removed from the car on a backboard and taken to Rescue 101 where a.l.s was administered. MEDSTAR 2 arrived at the landing zone just west of the scene on Joel Blvd., and the patient was assessed by the MEDSTAR medics prior to being taken to the helicopter and flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center in Fort Myers. Two pediatric patients who were in the pickup that t-boned the car were also treated for minor injuries and transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Paramedics splinted the patients and he was transported to Lehigh Regional aboard rescue 101.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 9/29/09 : LAFD "C" shift firefighter/paramedics had to extricate the driver of a demolished minivan that hit a dump truck on State Road 82 east of Jaguar Boulevard. The driver of the mini van crossed the center lane, slamming into the right front corner of the oncoming truck, pinning him in his vehicle. The victim was removed from the wreckage and transported to Lee Memorial Trauma Center aboard MEDSTAR 1.

Lehigh Acres car crash- 9/22/09 : LAFD Station 101 "B" shift firefighter/paramedics were dispatched to E. 10th Street at Hamilton Avenue around 0730 hours on 9/22/09, for a car vs. pedestrian. Upon arrival, paramedics found an 8 year old child unconscious in the weeds. Lieutenant Collins immediately requested MEDSTAR helicopter do the seriousness of the child's injuries. LAFD Rescue 101 transported the patient to the landing zone next to Station 101 where MEDSTAR 2 had just landed. The child was quickly evaluated by the MEDSTAR flight medics, transported to the chopper, and flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center where he was listed in critical condition. The child was later flown to Tampa General Hospital. Update: The Florida Highway Patrol has reported that the child from this incident has died at Tampa General Hospital. 1400 hours 9/23/09.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 9/7/09 : LAFD Engine 101 & Rescue 102 "B" shift were dispatched to East 14th Street & Robert Avenue for a traffic crash at approximately 2220 hours on 9/7/09. Upon arrival, Engine 101 found a car into a house with one victim lying next to the car, and a citizen report of a second occupant who had run from the scene and was soon found by LCSO deputies. Engine 101 Lieutanant Ketron transmitted a trauma alert for the victim at the scene and requested MEDSTAR to respond. Engine 102 was also requested to respond to Joel Boulevard @ East 14th Street for l/z control. The trauma alert was flown aboard MEDSTAR 2 to Lee Memorial Trauma Center with a partial foot amputation and the second patient was also taken to Lee Memorial by LAFD Rescue 101 w/ non life threatening injuries.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 9/7/09 : LAFD Engine & Rescue 102 "B" shift responded to 1102 Homestead Road North at approximately 1545 hours on 9/7/09 for a car vs. gas pump at the Shell Gas Station. Upon arrival they found a car had backed into a gas pump hard enough to cause a small gasoline leak. Due to the gasoline leak, Lieutenant Ronco had firefighter Alvarez lay down a blanket of foam prior to the car being removed by the wrecker. The driver of the vehicle apparently didn't realize the car was in reverse when she attempted to drive away, causing her to smash into the pump.

The driver sustained multiple injuries including a possible broken leg and was transported by LAFD Rescue 102 to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Lehigh Acres, FL atv crash- 6/27/09 : LAFD Firefighters from Station 102 "B" shift were dispatched to Tinker Street & Tomasello Avenue for an atv crash. Upon arrival they found a male victim of an atv rollover with serious injuries. The patient was quickly trauma alerted and air transport was requested by Battalion 100, Chief Wayne, who had arrived on scene. Alabama Road at Tinker Street was designated as the landing zone for the helicopter, and Truck 104 arrived on scene as the lz controller. The helicopter which arrived was Aeromed 5, which as of 5/1/09 has been permanently based in La Belle, FL and is operated by Tampa General Hospital.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 5/21/09 : LAFD "C" shift firefighters ended their shift today, 5/21/09, at the scene of a double fatal car crash on Lee Boulevard just west of Taylor Lane at approximately 0700 hours. The driver of a Chevrolet Lumina lost control of his car, spinning into the path of an oncoming Jeep Cherokee suv. This move proved fatal for himself and his passenger as the impact killed them both instantly. The two occupants of the Jeep were transported to local hospitals by LAFD rescues with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car was heavily entrapped in his vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger in the pickup was transported with minor injuries by Rescue 102, and the operator of the truck was placed under arrest by LCSO for unknown reasons.

In total, 4 patients were transported to local hospitals including one trauma alert to Lee memorial Trauma Center aboard MEDSTAR 1 and 3 others in LAFD rescues 102 & 105.

Fort Myers, FL car crash- 5/9/09 : Tice Fire Rescue assisted by Lehigh Fire Rescue and Lee County EMS worked the scene of a fatal crash at 6740 Buckingham Road at approximately 1430 hours on 5-9-09. The head-on wreck involved a pickup and a suv and resulted in two victims being trapped in the rolled over suv, one being a trauma alert and one a fatality. Four patients were transported by LAFD rescues 103 & 104 to local hospitals and the trauma alert was flown aboard MEDSTAR I to Lee Memorial Trauma Center.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 5/3/09 : LAFD "A" Shift firefighter/paramedics responded to a rollover crash with multiple ejections on 5/3/09 at approximately 1500 hours on Lee Blvd & Irving Avenue. Upon arrival, Engine 103 Lieutenant Saunders reported he had a vehicle rollover with several victim ejected, one being a fatality. Battalion Chief 101, Chief Dillalo arrived moments later and took command of the chaotic scene which featured 6 victims spread over a half acre field, and several grieving family members being restrained by LCSO Deputies. Chief Dillalo immediately requested MEDSTAR for one trauma alert and 3 additional rescues to the scene. Within minutes LAFD Paramedics had triaged and treated all patients and initiated transport to local hospitals. This is just one more in a long line of examples as to why the residents of the Lehigh Acres Fire District should be proud of the awesome job our firefighters & paramedics do day in and day out.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 5/2/09 : LAFD firefighters from Station 104, with acting Lieutenant Delgado in command, made quick work of extricating a victim of a two car head on crash on State Road 82 @ Alabama Road South at approximately 0300 hours on 5-2-09. The extricated driver sustained serious injuries in the crash, while the driver of the second vehicle was uninjured. State Road 82 was closed for several hours while the Lee County Sheriff's Office investigated.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 4/10/09 : LAFD firefighters from Station 103 "B" shift and Battalion 101, Chief Wayne, operated at a 4 car wreck at Lee Boulevard & Gunnery Road at approximately 1130 hours on 4/10/09. The driver of a Ford Probe heading eastbound on Lee Blvd. failed to see the pickup stopped at the red light and drove under the rear of the truck. The crash caused a chain reaction and a total of 4 vehicles were damaged. The offending driver refused treatment, however 2 other drivers were transported by LAFD rescues with non life threatening injuries.

Lehigh Acres, FL car vs. bicycle- 3/16/09 : LAFD Engine & Rescue 101 "A" shift were returning to station from a brush fire and came upon a male lying unconscious in the road on East 6th St @ Gerald ave at around 1730 hours on 3-16-09. It was initially assumed that the male, who was lying next to his bicycle, had been struck by a car. The victim soon regained consciousness, and it was determined he had suffered a seizure and fallen off the bike, suffering a head injury. The patient was deemed a trauma alert, and MEDSTAR was requested. The l.z was established at Joel Blvd & E. 6th St at the Methodist Church, and the patient was transferred from Rescue 101 and flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 3/14/09 : LAFD Firefighter/Paramedics from Stations 103 & 102 "B" shift treated several victims of a car vs. transit bus on Lee Boulevard @ 8th St West at approximately 1900 hours on 3/14/09. The driver of the car failed to stop and rear ended the bus which was stopped at a bus stop. The car's driver suffered serious leg & head injuries and was flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center aboard MEDSTAR 1. Several riders on the bus were also transported to area hospitals with neck & back pain.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 2/4/09 : LAFD firefighter/paramedics from Stations 105 & 102 "C" Shift and Battalion 101, Chief Christensen, operated at the scene of a single vehicle crash at approximately 0800 hours on 2/4/09. The pickup involved went off State Road 82 eastbound near Homestead Road and traveled approximately 250 feet before coming to rest in the water. After cutting through about 75 feet of heavy brush with chainsaws, LAFD firefighters were able to access the victim who was not conscious or breathing. LAFD firefighters did a rapid extrication of the victim and he was then treated and flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center in MEDSTAR 2.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 1/10/09 : LAFD firefighters from stations 103 & 104 "A" Shift operated at the scene of a suv rollover at approximately 0400 hours on 1-10-09 at Lee Blvd & Terry Ave North. The driver of the vehicle drove off the road, shearing of a utility pole and wrapping wires around his vehicle. LAFD Lieutenant Piniero advised the driver to remain in the car until the electric company arrived so they could assure that the power lines were not energized. The occupant was removed and appeared to be uninjured.

Lehigh Acres, FL bicycle crash- 11/2/08 : LAFD Firefighter/Paramedics from Stations 105 & 101 "B" Shift treated three victims of a multiple bicycle crash on Milwaukee Boulevard @ Mobley Street East at around 10:00 am today. One victim was seriously injured and transported by MEDSTAR 1 as a trauma alert, and the other two had less serious injuries and were transported by LAFD Rescue 101. All patients were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Center in Fort Myers, FL.

Lehigh Acres, FL car vs pedestrian- 9/23/08 : LAFD Firefighters from Station 104 "A" Shift and Battalion 101 had to utilize air bags to lift a vehicle off a victim of a car vs. pedestrian at around 1615 hours in the parking lot of WalMart at 2523 Lee Blvd. The victim, who was pinned under the car, was deemed a trauma alert by Paramedics due to serious injuries and flown to Lee Memorial Trauma Center aboard MEDSTAR 1. Two additional victims, one with serious injuries, were also transported by an LAFD Rescues. The victim who was pinned under the car later died at the hospital.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 4/1/08 : LAFD Firefighter/Paramedics from Station 101 "C" Shift & Battalion 101 work the scene of a serious two car wreck at the intersection of East 14th Street & Moore Avenue. One vehicle apparently ran the stop sign on Moore Ave and broadsided the pickup truck. Rescue 101 transported the pickup driver in traumatic arrest to Lehigh Regional Medical Center and Rescue 105 was requested to the scene to transport the driver of the car who sustained a head injury.

Lehigh Acres, FL car crash- 8/16/06 : LAFD firefighters were faced with multiple people pinned at this high speed head-on crash on Lee Bl. @ Sara Ave. North. A vehicle traveling at high speed crossed the median strip and hit a pickup head-on causing the truck to go airborne and land atop another car. The City of Fort Myers responded an engine & truck to assist the LAFD. Two trauma alerts were flown aboard MEDSTAR to Lee Memorial Trauma Center, and two additional trauma alerts went by ground.

Lehigh Acres, FL atv crash- 6/18/05 : LAFD Station 101 units operated at a pickup vs atv on E 10th Street near Robert Avenue. Two juveniles were ejected from the atv and both received serious injuries. MEDSTAR transported both riders to Lee Memorial Trauma Center and they were later transfered to Miami Children's Hospital.
